A few things worth knowing.

What exactly does Vigil do?

Vigil runs on an OPNsense firewall and watches the WAN connection. When the ISP stops handing out a DHCP lease, it first tries a DHCP renewal. If that does not recover the connection and the modem looks hung, it power-cycles the modem through a USB relay.

Will a lapsed licence stop Vigil from working?

No. The watchdog never stops working because of licence state. A lapsed licence means no updates and a status line in the GUI — it does not disable recovery. That is deliberate: the whole point is to recover sites that are offline.

What platforms does it run on?

Vigil runs on OPNsense today, and that is the only platform we support. The watchdog itself is not OPNsense-specific — we are working toward Windows, Linux, Ubiquiti EdgeOS and OpenWRT, with more to follow. We are not putting dates on those yet; ask us if a particular platform matters to your fleet.

How is the NET2D different from Vigil?

The NET2D is a standalone 2-channel Ethernet relay board with its own firmware. It needs no firewall, runs its own ping watchdog with A/B rollback, and can cycle the router as well as the modem — which a USB relay plugged into that router cannot.

Do I need to be on-site to install it?

You need someone on-site once to plug in the relay and install the plugin. After that, Vigil is built for sites nobody is physically at — that is the entire point.

How do I renew my licence?

Enter your licence key at checkout. Your licence is extended by one year from the later of its current expiry and today.

What happens if the relay or the watchdog itself fails or gets unplugged?

The relay is wired COM + NC, so a failed or unplugged device simply leaves the modem powered — that is the safe state, and it is deliberate: a dead watchdog must never take a live site down. The trade-off is that a failed watchdog also cannot power-cycle a hung modem. Only a working device can do that.
